The panel titled “Organ and Tissue Transplantation,” organized by the Faculty of Fisheries at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, was held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 13:00 in the Prof. Dr. Osman Beyazoğlu Conference Hall. Organ and Tissue Transplant Coordinator Oğuz Polat and Anesthesiology and Reanimation Specialist Dr. Mustafa Sakin participated in the panel as speakers. During the event, comprehensive information was provided on the importance of organ and tissue transplantation, the donation process, social awareness, and current practices. The vital importance of organ donation was emphasized, and participants’ questions regarding the donation process were addressed. The event, attended by students as well as academic and administrative staff, concluded with a question-and-answer session.

The panel titled “Sustainable Water Management,” organized by the Faculty of Fisheries at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University within the scope of World Water Day on March 22, addressed the protection of water resources, sustainable water management practices, increasing water scarcity, water pollution, microplastics, and the impacts of water on climate and ecosystems. The critical importance of conscious and sustainable water use from both environmental and socio-economic perspectives was emphasized. The event, held in the Prof. Dr. Osman Beyazoğlu Conference Hall, was attended by students, academic and administrative staff, and representatives of relevant institutions. The panel was moderated by Prof. Dr. Ertuğrul Ağırbaş, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries. Opening speeches were delivered by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Şevki Kayış, and Murat Genç, Provincial Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Rize. The speakers included Bünyamin Nalkıran (Senior Civil Engineer, Head of the Water and Sewerage Department of Rize Municipality), Prof. Dr. Bülent Verep, Prof. Dr. Ülgen Aytan, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veli Süme, who shared evaluations within their respective fields.

During the colloquium, current impacts of marine acidification and climate change on marine ecosystems, as well as recent scientific findings, were presented to the participants. Prof. Dr. Ertuğrul Ağırbaş, who led the colloquium, evaluated the regional and global implications of this critical environmental issue in his opening remarks. Invited speakers included Prof. Dr. Mehmet Levent Kurnaz (Boğaziçi University), Prof. Dr. Ali Muzaffer Feyzioğlu (Karadeniz Technical University), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koray Özhan (Middle East Technical University, Institute of Marine Sciences).

The colloquium addressed the prevalence of plastic pollution in the Black Sea, the distribution of microplastics in marine environments, their pathways into the food chain, impacts on ecosystems, and recent scientific research findings. Additionally, information was shared about an ongoing project investigating the distribution, composition, sources, and ecological interactions of micro- and nanoplastics in the Southeastern Black Sea ecosystem. The event was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Karaman, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Adnan Yılmaz, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries Prof. Dr. Cemalettin Şahin, and academic staff members. Presentations were delivered by Prof. Dr. Levent Bat (Sinop University, Faculty of Fisheries), Prof. Dr. Kadir Seyhan (Karadeniz Technical University, Faculty of Marine Sciences, Sürmene), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ülgen Aytan (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, Faculty of Fisheries).
