The project entitled “An Integrative Taxonomic and Population Genetic Investigation of Garra Hamilton, 1822 Species Distributed in Türkiye”, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Kalaycı, a faculty member of the Faculty of Fisheries at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, has been approved for funding within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 1001 – Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program.
With a duration of 36 months and a total budget of 2,391,126 TRY, the project aims to clarify the systematic status of Garra species distributed in Türkiye and to reveal the genetic structure of their populations. Within the scope of the project, morphological, molecular, and next-generation sequencing techniques will be employed to investigate phylogenetic relationships, genetic diversity, and the presence of possible interspecific hybridization among species.
The research team includes Prof. Dr. Davut Turan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cüneyt Kaya, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Bayçelebi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sadi Aksu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Ergül Kalaycı, Assist. Prof. Dr. Salih Kumru, and Dr. İsmail Aksu.
We congratulate Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Kalaycı and the project team on this valuable scientific achievement and wish our faculty member continued success in his academic and scientific endeavors.
