The social responsibility project titled “Know Freshness, Protect Your Health”, supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Samet Kalkan, a faculty member of our faculty, and led by Muhammet Emin Aydın, one of our faculty students, has been completed. The project team included Associate Professor Dr. Esra Bayçelebi, Associate Professor Dr. Barış Karslı, and Associate Professor Dr. Hazel Baytaşoğlu from our faculty members, as well as Alper GÖZCÜ, one of our faculty students.

With this project, it was aimed to inform consumers of all ages about how to distinguish fresh fish from stale fish. By raising consumer awareness, it was intended to enable the identification of stale fish and thus prevent potential health problems.

Within the scope of the project, posters facilitating the recognition of fresh fish were displayed at fish stalls operating in the Of district of Trabzon province. In addition, informative conversations were held with fishmongers and customers who came to purchase fish; the characteristics of fresh fish and its benefits for human health were explained. Moreover, the harms of stale fish to human health and the illnesses it may cause were emphasized; the related posters were turned into leaflets and distributed to some customers.

The project outcomes had positive effects on the target audience and were received with satisfaction.
