Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kübra AK carried out the social responsibility project ‘Blue Heritage: Endangered Aquatic Species’, a project activity was organised in Rize/Güneysu Ulucami Primary School in order to provide information about marine biodiversity, to raise awareness about the importance of protecting endangered aquatic species and to make children love nature and gain awareness of protection. Among the academic staff of our faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hatice ONAY, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Karslı, Assoc. Assist. Dr Akif ER and Assoc. Assist. Dr. Mert MİNAZ, who took part in the project activity, the diversity of the aquatic ecosystem was explained to the students in the 8-9 age group by showing the creatures with different characteristics such as octopus, crab, sea horse, stingray, sturgeon, periwinkle, oyster, which we took samples from the collection of the Faculty of Fisheries. At the same time, together with the project team, students created an aquatic ecosystem model with a model of aquatic creatures they made themselves. It is thought that the awareness they have gained in this project will contribute to their becoming individuals who are sensitive to environmental issues at a later age. In the future, children can take more concrete steps such as volunteering, environmental activism and participating in conservation projects. Within the scope of the project, children who learn sustainable behaviours such as using water sparingly, keeping the environment clean and reducing the use of plastic can adapt these habits to their lives. It is expected that these behaviours acquired at an early age will have a long-term social impact by continuing throughout their lives.
