Within the scope of the social project “Sustainable Marine Life School: Biodiversity and Conservation” carried out by our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hatice ONAY, activities were held in Rize / Güneysu / Fener Çaykur Mosque Qur'an Course and Rize / Güneysu / Adacamii Primary School. Sustainable Marine Life School: Biodiversity and Conservation project” supports individuals aged 6-7 years in primary school and 5-6 years in kindergarten to learn about marine biodiversity and to understand the importance of protecting biodiversity. It is aimed to show how the sustainable use of marine ecosystems can be protected, what are the problems in the marine ecosystem and to encourage being a part of the solution, to show that various aquatic creatures are endangered and that it is possible to reverse this and to raise awareness of individuals who will have a say in society in the future. In the project, it is aimed to introduce other species living in the marine environment other than fish and their habitats and to emphasize their ecological importance, - To reveal how the sustainable use of aquatic resources should be and the negative effects of excessive resource use on biodiversity, - To introduce the ecological and habitat requirements of species at risk and to introduce endangered species, - To explain the negative effects of human activities on aquatic ecosystems and to show what we can do as individuals to eliminate these effects. The short summary of the project is as follows. Rapid human population growth in the world and Turkey and the associated demands on natural resources threaten the biodiversity of natural ecosystems, including marine ecosystems. Biodiversity is of great importance for human health and well-being, economic prosperity, food security and safety. It also plays an important role in other areas that are vital for all people and societies. The aim of this project is to teach primary school children aged 6-7 years and kindergarten children aged 5-6 years how to protect the sustainable use of marine ecosystems, what are the problems in the marine ecosystem and to encourage them to be part of the solution, to show that various aquatic creatures are endangered and that it is possible to reverse this and to raise awareness of individuals who will have a say in society in the future. For this purpose, it is aimed to realize the 'Sustainable Marine Life School: Biodiversity and Conservation' project with the participation of 30 1st grade students from Adacami Primary School and 20 kindergarten students from Fener Çaykur Mosque Quran Course in Rize province. In this context, participants will make a model of a simulated marine environment. During the model construction, they will learn both aquatic life diversity and aquatic life habitats with fun. In addition, in order to determine the efficiency of the activity before this activity, a pre-post test will be applied verbally by asking questions about biodiversity, biodiversity conservation and aquatic creatures. At the end of the project, it is planned to raise awareness among the participants to understand aquatic ecosystems and protect biodiversity, and to contribute to society by transferring the knowledge and experience gained by individuals to their environment.
